Two Photography Awards for LCFE at sMedias
Date: 27 Apr 2012

Limerick College of Further Education was successful again at this year's 12th National Student Media Awards in Dublin, picking up awards in two categories for the three learners shortlisted. Joe Gilmartin, a First Year photography learner, won News Photographer of the Year and Eoghan Lyons, in Second Year, won Sports Photographer of the Year.

The College Director, Pat Maunsell, congratulated the learners and the Photography Department on their success saying that this was: “great news again for LCFE”.

LCFE has a very successful history in the ‘sMedias’, with Photography learners from the College previously picking up awards in the News Photographer of the Year, Sports Photographer of the Year & Overall Photographer of the Year categories.

Eoin McCarthy, Head of LCFE’s Photography Department, said the awards are all the more significant, given that LCFE is competing against 3rd Level college students: "It's great for the reputation of the College." He continued: "Some of our learners who have won awards were just first years who have only been studying for maybe 4 or 5 months and they've been competing against degree students who have been studying for maybe 3 and a half years. So, it's really good to see that our learners are competing against the very best."
