LCFE Brings ‘Sporting Limerick’ Podcast to Air

LCFE Brings ‘Sporting Limerick’ Podcast to Air
Date: 19 Apr 2012

Sporting Limerick Ltd. and Limerick College of Further Education recently announced the launch of a weekly sports podcast, a look at the latest local, national & international sports stories each Thursday evening. The podcast features a panel discussion of four guests made up of local sports media, sports fans and sports stars and offers a relaxed look at the sporting topics of the day. The podcast is produced each week by the Media Department at the College and is available to listen to on www.sportinglimerick.com or www.facebook.com/SportingLimerick.

Kieran O’Brien, Sporting Limerick Ltd, explained the concept behind the initiative: “The whole premise behind Sporting Limerick is to make a live, vibrant and usual brand available to all clubs, organisations & charities looking to support Limerick’s unique sporting culture. The launch of the podcast is another add-on for the brand and is something that ex-pat Limerick people can listen to anywhere around the country or indeed the world, to keep up-to-date on goings on in the sporting world.” He continued: “I’d like to thank Limerick College of Further Education for coming on board and allowing us not only to use their state of the art studios to record the podcast but also for producing the show and for showing huge support for the Sporting Limerick brand. The podcast is all about the interaction between the presenters and, with the sports teams of all the rival local media signed up to take part, one thing we can promise is a bit of fun & gentle slagging!”

Commenting on the project, Patrick Hogan, Media Department, added: “We were delighted to be asked to get involved in the Sporting Limerick podcast initiative as it will provide a great opportunity for learners on our media programmes to see at first-hand how the show is produced. Through the support of Arlene Douglas, Head of Media, and Pat Maunsell, the College Director, I am really pleased that we are able to provide the facilities to record the podcast at LCFE as we prepare to launch our own online radio station ‘iMix’.” The College currently offers four different media programmes, including three at FETAC Level 5 and one Advanced Media Production programme at FETAC Level 6.
